HMH vs Oakwood - MGBSFL Premier Division Game Of The Week
Venue: The Hive
The Premier Division is back in action this week and what a game we have in store for our Premier Division Game of The Week! HMH and Oakwood have played each other on 6 occasions in the last two seasons and Oakwood are yet to get the better of HMH, with HMH winning 3 out of 6 and the other ending in draws. This is a game Oakwood and HMH always look forward too and over the last two season we have certainly seen some fantastic games between the two sides.
Oakwood will be disappointed at their start to the season having drawn to Galaxy on the opening day and then losing narrowly to Raiders, however they were back to winning ways last week in Cyril Anekstein beating Stoke Salmon 2-1 and they will be looking to continue that winning form when they travel to The Hive this Sunday. HMH on the other hand are coming into this game having won their first 4 games of the season and in some fashion too! They have so far scored 18 goals in the premier division in 3 games beating Hendon, Fairlop and Faithfold Blue along the way but they will know they'll be in for a tough ride on Sunday against an Oakwood team who have not shown their best yet and will be coming to The Hive looking for all 3 points.
We spoke with HMH Manager Avi Goldberg pre game "After last weeks record shattering result, time to refocus on our 100% record in the league and 2 clean sheets in our last 2 league matches. There was a superb attitude at training in preparation for a testing match for we know Oakwood are always difficult opposition with plenty of quality. Despite a few absentees we are in good shape and whilst I expect to see a top quality match, if we carry on playing the way we have been over the last few games, I fully expect my lads to make it 4 league wins out of 4"
We are predicting a close game here as history has shown these games have been won and lost by fine margins, but we are backing HMH to continue their good form in Game Week Five.
MGBSFL Prediction: HMH 2-1 Oakwood
Maccabi London FC vs North London Galaxy
Venue: Rowley Lane
We absolutely love the look of this game and could have easily been our game of the week. Galaxy come into this game in fine form and although they have only played two games so far this season a score draw against Oakwood and last week's 6-1 victory over Faithfold Blue, this is a side who we predicted to be a surprise package at the start of the season and they are certainly living up to that! Galaxy's young man up front Joey Gold could be the player to look out for this Sunday coming off the back of scoring 4 goals last week and he is certainly a player that will be looking for that Golden Boot this season.
Maccabi London are potentially the biggest surprise package of this season, although always a strong side, the last few seasons have not been the best, but it looks as if this season they have stepped it up a notch, currently boasting a 100% record in the league and cup. This will be a super exciting game and although we have said it every week we are sticking by our word that Rowley Lane is one of the hardest places to visit in the MGBSFL so Galaxy will certainly have their work cut out on Sunday.
We Spoke to MLFC's Manager Max Kyte pre game “Galaxy are a good side with a lot of confidence. They got the better of us in preseason so they will be favourites going into this Sunday’s game. We will need to be defensively strong to get a result”
Galaxy's manager Luke Lewis "We’re expecting a tough game against Lions on Sunday. We know a few of their players and are aware of what they’re capable of, so we’re going to have to be at the top of our game to pick up 3 points here.. but we’re ready. I’m expecting the involvement of a few Saturday boys on Sunday.. it’s show time! We can’t wait to get on the pitch and battle it out at Rowley Lane, looking to make it 3 wins from 3 there"
A tough one to call given both teams have started well but we are backing Kyte's men to continue their good form
MGBSFL Prediction: Maccabi London FC 1-0 North London Galaxy
Faithfold Blue vs Faithfold White
Venue: To Be Confirmed
Faithfold Blue and Faithfold White are set to go to battle again following their opening day game where Faithfold Blue came out on top winning 3-0. Since then both teams have struggled in the Premier Division with Faithfold Blue losing to HMH and North London Galaxy, whilst Faithfold White are yet to pick up any points so far this season. It is too early to say this is a 'Relegation clash' but with both teams struggling so far they will both be looking to this game to pick up a welcome 3 points. Faithfold White will be disappointed with their start having finished 2nd last season and will know this is a great opportunity to start turning things around this season, whilst Faithfold Blue will be looking to climb up the table.
We think this will be close and with both teams having a tough time, it's too difficult to call so we are going for a score draw
MGBSFL Prediction: Faithfold Blue 2-2 Faithfold White
Borussia Barnet vs Paris Saint-Jewmain
Venue: Bridgestone Arena
Borussia Barnet fans could not be more delighted with how their team have started the season, they have won 4 from 4 and find themselves top of the table. Last time out they defeated Premier Division side Faithfold White in the cup and come into Sunday’s game full of confidence. “We’ve had a great start to the season winning 3 league games and the one cup game we’ve played,” said Barnet manager Bradley Papier. “With an impressive stat of winning every away game we’ve played since we formed. We’re hoping the 100% record in away games and the start to this season continues in the same way. We have a nearly full squad and played PSJ 3 times last year and won all 3 scoring 10 conceding 1. Let’s hope to keep all the trends continuing Sunday, but if we get complacent it can be tricky, PSJ are a decent side.” Elio Elia’s PSJ side will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing day out last week which saw them concede 6 to Mill Hill Dons. The opposition manager, Brandon Hammé spoke about the potential PSJ have after the game, stating that it will only be a matter of time until things click for them, they will be hoping that starts to happen this Sunday. They have not picked up a point since their opening day win over Club de Chigwell, they will be desperate to end the wait this Sunday, they face a tricky challenge against a high-flying Barnet side.
MGBSFL Prediction: Borussia Barnet 3-0 PSJ
Club de Chigwell vs Brook Farm Rovers
Venue: Seven Kings School
The second of a cup-league double header between these sides, sees both teams facing off once again this Sunday. Rovers came out victorious last week with player-manager Dan Cohen scoring a hat trick, “It was an overall great team performance,” said Cohen after the game. “We looked sharp from the first whistle and dominated the game from start to finish. Scored some excellent team goals and were solid at the back, just a shame we couldn’t keep a clean sheet. Pleased to progress in the cup but now it’s back to Essex this week for the second leg, this time in the league where we’ve only played once and need to get our season up and running with three points. They will be looking for revenge though so it won’t be easy but we’ll be ready.” Both teams are in the hunt for their first points of the season, with Josh Dobias’ men playing one game more, he is hoping his side can get their season underway this Sunday, “Taking on brook farm rovers again so we know what to expect. We didn’t perform anywhere near the standards we can so looking to get our season up and running with 3 points on Sunday.”
MGBSFL Prediction: Club de Chigwell 1-3 Brook Farm Rovers
Hertswood Vale vs Temple Fortune
Hertswood Vale and Temple Fortune meet for the first time this season on Sunday in yet another matchup in which both teams are looking for their first league wins of the season. Both teams did get their first wins of the season last weekend though with both progressing into the second round of the Cyril Anekstein Cup, with Vale defeating the Bears and Fortune defeating the Bees. Vale manager Jacob Emanuel is excited to be returning to league action “Looking forward to a league match for the first time in a month, and we're keen to get our first win on the board after drawing our opening two. We come into the game off the back of comprehensive wins over Spec and London Bears, but the league is where our priority is this season. Continuity is key for us building momentum over the next few weeks, and being able to name a similar squad this week is positive. I have a lot of respect for Temple Fortune and Simon has got a brilliant squad at his disposal, it's going to be a difficult game and the boys are going to have to be at their best to ensure we grab the 3 points.” Fortune manager knows his side are in for a tricky game this Sunday “Hertswood Vale are a very good side, it’s not going to be easy but we must work hard to try and get something out of the game and kick start out season.”
Vale welcome back James Neidle and Jordan Harris for this one, but Tony Gold, Jordan Grant, Scott Hircombe and Charlie Becker remain sidelined. Dan Reuben and Andy Gilbert are also unavailable for selection this week. Fortune are missing Jonny Kaye in what would have been a return to the club, Daniel Vandermolen misses out through injury. Grant Bates and Nick Stern are back available.
MGBSFL Prediction: Hertswood Vale 3-1 Temple Fortune
London Bears vs FC Team
Venue: Spikes Bridge Park
The Bears will be keen to forget Sunday’s game against Vale in a hurry, they will be hoping that it will serve as just a rare blip in what has been a good start for the Bears, who sit 4th in the league despite only playing just two league games so far. They come up against a strong FC Team side, that are unbeaten in all competitions so far and look like they could be serious promotion contenders this season. FC Team’s Mitch Young spoke about his side’s record against the Bears “We have a bad record against bears and hope to put that right this weekend.” A win for the Bears would see them leapfrog their opponents, whilst FC Team can put the pressure on Barnet and Mill Hill with a win.
MGBSFL Prediction: London Bears 1-2 FC Team
Mill Hill Dons vs Faithfold Green
Venue: Brunel University
The Dons come into Sunday’s game against Faithfold Green in high spirits after a 6-0 victory over Paris Saint-Jewmain last time out, Mill Hill have not lost since their opening day fixture against Borussia Barnet and come into Sunday’s game bang in form. A key part of the Dons’ success has been their defence, they have conceded just once from open play this season, with goalkeeper Sam Singer being in majestic form. “We come into Sunday’s game full of confidence, we are coming off a string of very solid performances and the mood is high in the camp as a result. We need to make sure that the confidence doesn't turn into complacency and we keep focused and keep doing our thing. Faithfold Green are a bit of an unknown, they haven’t won so far this season but they have come up against two very solid sides so it’s hard to gauge them as a side at this early stage, so we will need to stay alert. We got so much competition within the side, it’s causing many selection headaches each week but I believe it’s been crucial in our success so far, the boys know they need to give it their all to stake their claim in the side.” This will be Faithfold Green’s second league game of the season, they drew to London Bears in their first match. Their manager Ben Kfir mentioned that this game will help them know where they stand as a team going forward “ It's only our second game, I’m not sure where we stand yet.” A win for the Dons could see them go top of Borussia Barnet fail to beat Paris Saint-Jewmain.
Josh Tiano is set to make his competitive debut for the Dons this Sunday, whilst Josh Cinna is set to make his return from a long term injury. Sam Demby, Sam Whiteman and Josh Moses are all recovering from injuries, whilst Dillon Lewis is unavailable.
MGBSFL Prediction: Mill Hill Dons 2-1 Faithfold Green
FC East London Bees v Stoke Salmon - MGBSFL Division Two Game Of The Week
Venue: Epping Upper Clapton RFC
FC East London Bees know they face a tough test against undefeated Stoke Salmon this Sunday. Losing out in the last minute in the cup hurt the Bees, but they'll want to put it behind them quickly for this huge game.
League leaders Stoke Salmon have conceded just two goals this season, and see this game as their biggest test so far. Having been edged out of the Anekstein Cup by Premier Divsion opponents Oakwood, they know nothing less than three points will do.
The Bees gave us their thoughts ahead of Sunday's game, "Another home game against a very tough opponent. We know that Stoke Salmon, along with Azzuri, are the 2 favourites for the league so it will be good to test ourselves. After our disappointing last minute dodgy penalty defeat in the cup last week we hope to bounce back, albeit without some players. Liam Stein and Jordan Sapler both miss out this week with injury and Joe Sumray is a big doubt. We welcome Ross Segal back after a 2 week quarantine period, even though he had 6 covid tests in his bubble (as he has told us all a million times)."
A cautious but confident Stoke Salmon told us, "Without doubt going to be the biggest test we’ve had in the league so far. The Bees have had a good start to the season and can’t stop scoring, we are going to have to be at our best if we want to keep up our unbeaten run in the league. We know they are going to be right at it after nearly taking a Div1 team all the way last weekend if it wasn’t for a dodgy penalty decision (where have we heard that before?!). We are aware of the threat they carry, we will do our best for the fans so we come out on top.
Team News: LG & Schinds still missing through injury- will we ever see the skipper in a Salmons kit? Who knows. #FlaxBack for his league debut, he’ll be looking to catch up the top scorers in the league.
The Goat (Smaje) & VC Scotty G both doubts after picking up knocks last Sunday. Jonny Halmer in the squad despite a small Rona scare - turns out he’s just allergic to dust. Jack Christie also in the squad after a stupidly good display on Sunday, but can he do it on a cold Sunday morning in Essex? We shall see #COYS
MGBSFL Prediction: FC East London Bees 2-5 Stoke Salmon
Redbridge Jewish Care vs NWL Azzurri
Redbridge Jewish Care will be aiming for their first three points of the season, after picking up just a point from their opening two games. However, with a massive test against free-scoring NWL Azzurri they'll need to make sure they are on their 'A game'.
NWL Azzurri continued their impressive form last Sunday with a 4-0 win over Division One's Faithfold Green, this coming after two opening league wins. Having scored NINETEEN goals so far this season, they will want to keep the goals coming, and stay solid at the back.
Spencer Saffer NWL Azzurri manager gave us his thoughts ahead of Sunday's game, "Off the back of a nice cup win last Sunday we get back to the league this week against a really dangerous opponent in Redbridge, we know they are going to be up there come the end of the season so we know this is a massive game that all the boys are well up for."
MGBSFL Prediction: Redbridge Jewish Care 2-6 NWL Azzurri
SPEC vs Scrabble
Venue: Oakhill Park
SPEC will be keen to forget about last Sunday's heavy cup defeat, and concentrate on their league campaign. They have had mixed fortunes this season, with one league win from two. However, goals have been hard to come by, scoring just two goals from their three games.
SPEC manager Ricky Lawrence gave us his thoughts ahead of Sunday's game, “It’s nice to get back into league action but we know it’ll be a tricky fixture against Scrabble. We’ve had mixed fortunes against them in recent seasons and we won’t win unless we’re at our best.”
After starting their league campaign with a win, Scrabble have faltered since, losing the last three on the bounce and conceding an alarming TWENTY THREE goals.
We can't choose a winner in this one, and are predicting a score draw.
MGBSFL Prediction: SPEC 2-2 Scrabble
Straw Hat Pirates vs Hampstead Ducks
The Ducks come into Sunday's game undefeated in their first two games, but off the back of a 5-1 loss to FC Team in the cup. With the league very much their focus this season, they'll be keen to get back to winning ways come Sunday.
Hampstead Ducks told us, "The Ducks were gutted by last week’s defeat and are looking to get back to winning ways in the league back on Sunday. It’s a great opportunity for us to climb the table. As always, we’ll be focusing on our defensive solidity after a blip last weekend, and build our attacks as the game progresses."
Straw Hat Pirates were involved in arguably the MGBSFL game of the season last time out in the league, a 6-6 draw with the Wallabies. Having not picked up a win yet this season, this will be a game they would have targted to turn things around and get their season up and running.
MGBSFL Prediction: Straw Hat Pirates 3-4 Hampstead Ducks
